We can let another person be himself only when we want nothing from him.
~ Vernon Howard - Cosmic Command, # 301
When we want nothing from another, we release all control over the outcome.
We allow what we want in return - the thing that we need for ourselves: freedom and self-expression.
This can be a challenge, especially in relationships where we have developed expectations and behavior patterns over long years.
It's not about emotional detachment, rather something more basic - the dynamic between two people in conversation - one interaction at a time.
To thrive in this world, each of us must break through the rocks, the roots, and the roadblocks by our own efforts - without someone trying to pull us elsewhere.
In wanting nothing, we reach for everything - and we are all free.

American philosopher Vernon Howard [1918-1992] saw through the illusion of spiritual suffering in its many forms and showed the world the way to be free.
There is a web site that carries on his work where you can find his audio and written works, as well as sign up for a daily message. Click here.
Howard taught that our minds hold the key that unlocks the secrets of life. Once we discard the wrong ideas we hold about ourselves, we make room for Something Higher to enter.
From the web site: All his teachings center around one grand theme:
There is a way out of the human problem and anyone can find it.
