Distress

Distress comes from thinking about yourself without wanting to correct yourself. Write that sentence down in your mind and keep it in front of you as your mind operates during the day. That's like owning an airplane and you leave it on the ground and just look at it and make no attempt to learn to fly.

~ Vernon Howard - Higher World

The above video helps us understand distress tolerance and how to process distressing emotions through observation and conscious perspective adjustment.

Healing can only occur if we face our emotions, instead of distracting ourselves, numbing the pain, avoiding the facts, or harming ourselves.

Emotions are not you - they are information.

Distress is normal when we're faced with life's difficult moments. But we can take ownership of our emotional state with deliberate practices.

American philosopher Vernon Howard [1918-1992] saw through the illusion of spiritual suffering in its many forms and showed the world the way to be free.

There is a web site that carries on his work where you can find his audio and written works, as well as sign up for a daily message. Click here.

Howard taught that our minds hold the key that unlocks the secrets of life. Once we discard the wrong ideas we hold about ourselves, we make room for Something Higher to enter.

From the web site: All his teachings center around one grand theme:

There is a way out of the human problem and anyone can find it.
